2009 FAIR WELCOME
On behalf
of the Fair Board and myself, it is with great pleasure to welcome you to
the 80th annual Caruthers District Fair. There are still a
handful of people around who remember attending the first one in 1923!
Through the years, the fair’s appearance has greatly changed , however the
pride and generosity of the people who help to make it happen has remained
steadfast. Our theme this year is “A Snapshot of America.” It is an honor
to be part of an event that has represented the values of America so well
over the years. Our all-volunteer board has a combined service record of
nearly 400 years! I believe that through the years, the Caruthers Fair has
bound our community together. Hundreds of volunteers from Caruthers and the
surrounding areas have come together each fall to present what has come to
be called, “California’s largest free-gate fair.”
As we work to improve the grounds
each year, this year promises to be all you’ve come to expect and more…once
again there will be great food from local organizations. Floriculture and
Horticulture exhibits will be on display along with many School and Home Art
projects that are always a pleasure to see. You can look forward to some
great Commercial exhibits throughout the fair as well as Livestock Shows and
Sale being held in the show ring. There will be outstanding Entertainment
on two stages throughout the week and motorcycle races running on Friday and
Saturday nights. Once again, Johnston Amusements will be running the
carnival rides, providing a safe and fun way for kids of all ages to enjoy
the fair. On Saturday Oct 3rd, the day starts with the parade
held downtown at 10:00 am and ends with the drawing of a 2009 Ford Mustang
being raffled off at the close of the fair. Tickets for the Mustang are
available from our fair Queen candidates until Sunday Sept 27, or at the
front of the Commercial Building during the fair. The proceeds from these
ticket sales are what help to keep our fair a “free” event, so please be
generous when purchasing your tickets!
