LIABILITY INSURANCE

County, district, and state fairs cannot legally carry liability insurance covering junior exhibitors or their exhibits. Liability insurance is the responsibility and at the discretion of the junior exhibitor. Therefore, it is suggested that the junior exhibitors consider taking out a liability policy covering themselves and their exhibits.

ELIGIBILITY AND AGE REQUIREMENT

FFA members may participate as members until the end of the calendar year following the year of graduation from high school.

4-H members may enroll when entering the fourth grade, and can exhibit as a member until the end of the calendar year in which the member becomes age 19.

Independent junior exhibitors who are not FFA or 4-H members can enter appropriate FFA or 4-H classes if they meet the following age requirements: a) exhibitor must be at least 9 years of age on the first day of the fair and b) exhibitor must not be older than 17 years of age during the fair. Junior exhibitors who have been FFA or 4-H members within 60 days prior to the fair (120 for cattle) are not eligible to compete as independent junior exhibitors. Independent junior exhibitors will compete with 4-H members when 4-H and FFA are judged separately.

EXHIBITOR UNIFORMS

FFA Uniforms - The official FFA show uniform to be worn by all FFA exhibitors and their helpers in individual and chapter groups while showing at fairs and livestock shows shall consist of white trousers, white dress shirt (short or long sleeved with the FFA emblem attached to the left pocket) and the official FFA four in hand necktie. The official FFA jacket is optional; if worn, the shirt emblem is not required. Hats or headgear of any kind shall not be worn with the official uniform while showing. Show uniform requirement is determined by the FFA organization.

4-H Uniforms - White or off-white trousers, white shirt, 4-H tie, and hat for boys. White or off-white trousers or skirt, white shirt or blouse with 4-H tie or 4-H scarf and hat for girls. Show uniform requirement is determined by the 4-H organization.

A properly completed and signed Buyer’s Form is required at registration for all livestock to be sold at the Junior Livestock Auction.

Each animal or exhibit must be part of an established educational project at least 60 days prior to being exhibited (at least 120 days for Market Beef and Dairy Cattle).

A Cattle Transportation Permit is required when transporting cattle to and from the fair.

All cattle over six months of age require official veterinarian documentation of a negative T.B. test within 60 days of fair.

Animals not entered and registered as exhibits will not be allowed on the fairgrounds.

Registration papers (photocopy) on all registered animals must be attached to the entry form when submitted. Original Registration Certificates issued by a Breed Association must be presented when the animals arrive at the fairgrounds. Alterations and/or deviation from the original documents will result in disqualification unless clearance in writing is first obtained from the Breed Association.

All market and feeder animals must be weighed upon arrival at the fair. Bill of Sale and Brand Inspection for beef animals must be presented at registration. Animals exceeding the maximum weight limit as listed in the Exhibitor Handbook will be allowed to show, however, they will be exhibited in a super-heavy weight class. Official sale weight will be the maximum weight limit for that species. Underweight animals entered in market classes will be entered in a feeder class if one is available. Underweight animals with no feeder class available may be used for showmanship classes. Fair management reserves the right to assign classes for all animals to be exhibited.

LIVESTOCK AUCTION (MARKET CLASSES ONLY)

The livestock auction of the Caruthers District Fair Association is managed entirely by Fair staff.

Animals not registered with a completed Buyer’s Form will not be allowed to sell. It is the exhibitors responsibility to secure a guaranteed buyer with a minimum bid of $2.00 per pound.

Payment will be sent to the seller or his/her agent after buyer’s payment has cleared the bank. Should a problem with the buyer’s payment arise, the seller will be notified immediately as to the action to be taken. Prompt payment by the buyer is sought.

Fair management will arrange the order of the sale after completion of judging.

All market animals awarded a purple, blue or red ribbon shall be eligible for sale.

Only one animal per species per exhibitor is eligible to be sold unless more than each animal exhibited is awarded champion in its class.

Animals exceeding maximum weight limits will be sold at the weight listed for the maximum weight for that species.

A dated Bill of Sale or Brand Inspection must be submitted at registration for all beef animals to be sold.

All meat producing livestock must be withheld from slaughter at least 21 days after inoculation with biologicals. Withdrawal times listed for antibiotics must be observed prior to slaughter to avoid residues in the carcass. Contaminated carcasses remain the responsibility of the seller.

All animals exhibited and sold remain the responsibility of the seller until the animals are removed from the fairgrounds.

A five (5) percent sales commission on lambs,  swine and goats and a three (3) percent sales commission on beef will be charged to defray costs.

“Added” moneys are considered part of the auction and therefore will be subjected to the same rules and commissions. Added moneys, "add-on" slips, must be submitted to fair livestock management prior to auction. If directly paid exhibitor must turn the funds over to the fair management for proper disposition. "Add-on" moneys must be payable to Caruthers District Fair. ONLY ADD-ON ACCOUNTS OF $100.00 OR MORE WILL BE BILLED BY THE FAIR OFFICIALS.

The owner of the animal shall bring his animal to the sales ring at the time of sale.

No change will be accepted on the sales receipt for the consignment after it is completed.
