Celina Macias

Celina Macias:

I am a sophomore at Riverdale High School. I am 15 and have one older sister Suzanna who just graduated high school and a younger sister Emily who just graduated preschool. My parents, Veronica Pena & Lino Macias support me in everything I wish to do.  I’ve been dancing here in Caruthers since I was 3 years old.  I really have a passion for dancing.  When I was younger, I also learned baton, I performed in a number of parades. I also really enjoy riding quads at the dunes in Pismo.  Someday I wish to continue that talent and compete in races, and perform in dancing.  It would be an honor to be Caruthers Fair Queen because I wish to be a role model for my younger sister & it has been my dream since I was a little girl.

Kori Peterson

Kori Peterson

I am 17 years old and the daughter of Mark and Sandi Peterson.  I was born and raised just outside of the little town of Easton and am currently attending Washington Union High School where I am finishing up my junior year.  In high school, I have been on the Varsity Cross-Country, JV Basketball and Varsity Track teams for the past three years.  I am a life member of G.A.T.E. and was the Associated School Body Treasurer my junior year.  I have also been an active member of the Fresno-Washington FFA Chapter where I was the 2008-2009 Chapter Vice President.  Through all the many events and activities that I participate in with and through Washington Union I have managed to maintain a 4.0 grade point average and am life member of California Scholarship Federation.

Along with the various teams and clubs that I am a member of, for the past 9 years I have raised a herd of approximately 35 dairy goats with my mom and brother and also have shown sheep for the past 10 years.  I have been showing market and breeding sheep at both the Caruthers and Fresno fairs through 4-H and have recently shown them with my FFA chapter this past year and have won several market and showmanship classes over the state of California from the Caruthers Fair to Fresno Fair to State Fair and many other sows that are strictly for dairy goats.  We have also traveled to the state of Wyoming for the 2007 American Dairy Goat Association National Show and were pleased to come back with those that had placed in the top tem of their age group.  Along with the sheep and dairy goats I have also shown Boer goats, market chickens and a dairy replacement heifer.

After graduating from Washington Union, I plan on attending CSU Fresno and majoring in Animal Science and then later transfer to UC Davis to major in Veterinary Medicine so that one day I can be a Veterinarian and have my own business.

I am running for Caruthers Fair Queen because I think it will be a great way for me to go out and become more involved in my community.  I also think that it will be a great scholarship opportunity since I plan on attending college for quite some time to become a Veterinarian.

I’m the youngest and only girl in my family.  I’m very active and heart-warming person.  I play sports all year round and the sports I participate in are cross-country, soccer, and track.  I’ve been in cross-country and track since my eighth grade year and I’ve been playing soccer since I was four years old.  In 2008, I helped with the Caruthers Elementary Cross-Country team and that gave me the advantage of how it is of being a coach for cross-country like I want to be.  Also in the year 2008 I was one of the Caruthers stats girls for Caruthers Varsity Football team and in 2007 I was the water girl for the team.  For me being involved in all of these activities for my school is really helping me become a teacher like I want to be.  I’m a heart-warming person because whenever someone has a problem, they can always find a way to communicate with me and talk to me about it.  I will always be there for anyone, even if I don’t know them that well, I’m still willing to help them through their situation because no one deserves to have a burden on their shoulders with nobody to turn too.  They need to find a way to let it go, and that’s where they usually come and talk to me.  I’m glad to know that people can always cont on me if they need someone to talk to.

“Live hard or back down” is my motto because you have to push yourself for everything you want in life and for you to be able to succeed in it, or you can just back down and have nothing exciting in our life.  This quote is true for me because I push myself during my sports and my religion.  During my sports seasons, I have to work harder everyday at practice and every time I step on the field or on the track.  If I want to beat that one person that’s ahead of me, I have to push myself to my limit and keep going for it or else I’m letting the other team take the chance to win and I had given up on myself and my team.  If you don’t reach your limits or over them, then you’re in the same spot as when you started and nothing new has happened to you.  I push for the religion that I am because I’m proud to be whom and what I am.  If I don’t spread it then I’m giving up on myself and the community.  Also if people don’t talk about the religion that they’re then who knows what might happen, maybe in years to come only a few people will only believe in God and that would be because no one talk to their friends and/or family about it.  If you don’t talk about it then you’re giving upon yourself because you’re just letting your religion get smaller every day until there are only so many people left and then who knows what will happen from there.

“Stick together and last forever”. This reminds me of my family because we will always stick with each other through whatever situation that one of us is in.  We can get in to the worst arguments ever but later on, we know that we can go back and talk about what happened and why it happened.  Also, whenever one of us is hurt, mad, or even to the point of tears, we will always be there for one another and are able to talk about it and go through the situation, maybe even solve it for each other.  My family gets along very well and we all know that.  My family is the thing that has ever happened to my in my life. I have no idea what kind of a person I would be without them because they helped me become the person I am today and I thank them for everything they have done for me.  I love my family so much.
