Caruthers District Fair Association            2010 Fair - Sept 29 through Oct 2

      Clarence DeFreitas was born on February 13, 1924.  He started grammar school when he was 5 1/2 years of age.  That year, he saw the Caruthers Fair for the first time as it was being held on the Grammar School grounds. since that year, he has attended the Caruthers Fair for 80 years in a row. He has never missed a fair.

    Clarence's father served on the Fair board for several years during the 1930's and Clarence served as a board member during the 1960's.  He graduated for Caruthers High School in 1941 and at the age of 18, purchased his first 20 acres and has been farming ever since.  In 1946, Clarence married Helen smith.  They had two sons, Tom and Dennis who are also farmers in the Caruthers area.  Clarence and Helen had 581/2 wonderful years of marriage and enjoyed traveling, golfing and dancing.
